Review | Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam Hotel

The Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam is a 5 star, ideally located, force to be reckoned with US Boutique hotel in Central Amsterdam. With 274 deluxe rooms as well as 15 rooms in original 17th Century Townhouses the Kimpton really does have tons of character and charm.

I've had my eye on the Kimpton De Witt since last year as I loved the modern and botanical style plus the location looked ideal for a first visit, so naturally it was my first choice. As I live for affordable luxury, I took one look at the pictures and knew I didn't care about the price as I wanted to experience this gorgeous boutique hotel for you, the readers (not for myself of course).

Location Location Location

Kimpton could not be in a better location, slap bang, right in the heart of Amsterdam. It's only a short 4 minute walk from the Train station so if you are planning to take the train from the airport it's a fine choice. It's only a 30 minutes by car to Amsterdam Airport.

Kimpton De Witt makes for a perfect hub to explore Amsterdam. It's a 10 minute walk into Red Light District, Jordaan is 20 minutes and De Pijp is 30 minutes. Of course, if you want to give your feet a rest take the Tram which will get you to most major attractions in 10 minutes.

The location is great, however, it isn't the most picturesque compared to other hotels that line the canal. Kimpton is based on one of the main roads through Amsterdam. To ease your mind, I didn't hear the road at all inside the hotel but if you are wanting views of canals, there aren't any.

Interiors

The entrance sets the tone for the stay, a botanical wall with fluorescent pink script stating "just Breathe".The lobby is decorated beautifully, with velvet sofas, geometric tiles, pastel coloured walls and focal artwork. The interior garden was a little haven to slurp a wine down and forget the rush of the city around me.

Just look at the Pink chairs and geometric tiles!

 Wine and Chills!

Wine and Chills!

Randomly, this was the nicest smelling hotel I have ever stayed at, we have Marie-Stella-Maris to thank! A local brand whose scent radiates throughout the lobby, so much so I had to compliment the staff and ask how could I replicate this in my own home.

Our room was incredibly spacious, with a huge king size bed, wardrobe and a relaxing chair in the corner. The bed and the linen was absolutely dreamy. I struggled to get up in the mornings as it was so comfortable! I do find hotels hit and miss with bed comfort but the Kimpton exceeded my expectations.

I loved the small touches of luxury, as a Brit, the bone china tea set went down a treat for me as did the crystal wine glasses! I  am all about the coffee in the morning and there is a Nespresso capsule machine in the room for that quick fix. Marie-Stella-Maris, a local brand, was amenities' brand of choice, a fine choice indeed as I ended up buying a shower gel and diffuser to bring home. Also, if you are into Yoga, there are mats in the room, Namaste indeed.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed that Breakfast was not included in the £200 a night price tag I paid. Most boutique hotels I have stayed in over the years all include Breakfast in the package so this was a slight downer for me.

Food and Drink

As breakfast was not included (not a sore point at all), I didn't get a chance to sample a lot of the food here. However, I did sample the complimentary Wine and Nibbles for guests between 5pm-6pm in the interior garden swing! This massively made up for the damage of the breakfast as the wine was delicious and we tasted dutch delicacies: Bitterballen.

Strong Pours. Warm Vibes
— Kimpton De Witt

Strong Pours, Warm Vibes, sums up the atmosphere at the House bar. It was ambient, relaxed and stylish cool attracting a nice crowd who enjoy socialising over a Gin cocktail. If you are a regular of Earth Lists, you will know I enjoy a cocktail or two, especially if Gin is involved; I give the cocktails here my seal of approval!

Facilities

Visiting Amsterdam in Spring means one thing: rain! Kimpton have complimentary umbrellas in the lobby and in the rooms for their guests. This came in handy after it rained consecutively for three days! If you fancy a little cycle around the city then you're in luck as there are VanMoof bikes to hire, free of charge, subject to availability of course.

There is also a gym on site for those who like to exert some exercise after all the walking! Also, if you are thinking of road tripping around the Netherlands, they do have an onsite car park. No need to worry about transfers to/from the airport as they have a private transfers service which cost about £5 more each than a standard taxi.

Would I return?

I absolutely loved the Kimpton and the experience I had so I would return and I have been suggesting it to all my friends. If it's your first time in Amsterdam or a special occasion then you must splurge on this gorgeous hotel.
